On 13 June 2026, ASREN, in collaboration with the Arab Federation for Libraries and Information (AFLI) and ORCID, co-hosted the regional webinar “Persistent Identifiers for Researchers (ORCID) and the Role of Libraries and Information Centers in Institutional Adoption.”
The webinar brought together librarians, information professionals, researchers, and institutional representatives from across the region to explore how persistent identifiers can strengthen researcher identity and visibility, support institutional adoption of ORCID, and contribute to more connected and interoperable research ecosystems.

The discussions highlighted the important role of libraries and information centers in promoting ORCID adoption within their institutions and supporting researchers throughout the research lifecycle. By engaging directly with researchers and institutional stakeholders, libraries can help strengthen the connection between researchers and their scholarly outputs while contributing to broader Open Science and research infrastructure objectives.
The webinar also formed part of ASREN’s broader efforts to expand ORCID adoption across the Arab region through regional partnerships, community engagement, Arabic-language resources, and the ASREN–ORCID Champions initiative.
The session attracted strong regional engagement, with 98 participants attending live, reflecting growing interest in persistent identifiers and their role in strengthening research identity and research infrastructure across the region.
