The discussions covered several
areas of mutual interest, including the potential deployment of eduroam in Egypt, which would facilitate secure
Wi-Fi roaming for researchers, students, and academic staff across
participating institutions. The meeting also explored future opportunities to
leverage the MEDUSA submarine
cable to enhance connectivity and support research and education
collaboration between Egypt and the wider Euro-Mediterranean region.
Another key priority was
connecting universities and research institutions with the relevant national
research and education network infrastructure to better address their
connectivity needs and expand access to shared digital resources and services. As a strategic partner of ASREN,
ASRT’s role in the upcoming e-AGE26
conference, ASREN’s 16th annual conference, taking place on 1–3
December 2026 at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, was also discussed.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review conference preparations and
explore how the partnership can advance shared priorities in research and
education, strengthen institutional cooperation, and promote collaboration
among universities, research institutions, and digital infrastructure providers
across the Arab region.
The meeting reaffirmed the
importance of continued cooperation in advancing research and education
infrastructure in Egypt and strengthening its connections with regional and
international research communities. Through ongoing dialogue and joint efforts,
ASREN and ASRT aim to explore practical initiatives that support digital
transformation and create new opportunities for researchers and higher
education institutions.
