The
Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN) and the Federation of Scientific Arab Councils (FASRC)
have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reaffirming their
commitment to strengthening scientific research, higher education, and digital
collaboration across the Arab region. The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Abdelmajid
BenAmara, Secretary-General of FASRC, and Eng. Yousef Al-Torman,
Managing Director of ASREN.
Building on their existing
partnership, the renewed agreement establishes a framework for enhanced
cooperation in research and education connectivity, digital infrastructure and
services, Open Science, knowledge exchange, and capacity development. It also
provides a basis for joint initiatives that connect Arab universities and
research institutions, support collaborative research, and advance shared
regional priorities.
A key priority of the renewed
agreement is cooperation with the Arab
Scientific Research Centers Network (ASRCN), particularly connecting its
research centers to local, regional, and international research and education
networks through ASREN. This cooperation aims to strengthen connectivity,
facilitate access to shared digital infrastructure and services, and foster
collaboration among scientific research centers across the Arab region.
The partnership will also promote
joint research initiatives addressing regional priorities and the Sustainable
Development Goals, alongside capacity building, knowledge exchange, and
coordination with relevant ministries, scientific research councils, universities,
and other institutions to advance collaborative initiatives and identify
potential funding opportunities. Additional areas of cooperation
include advancing Open Science and Open Access, supporting the Arab Regional
Open Science Cloud (AROSC), and improving the visibility and discoverability of
regional research outputs through initiatives such as TIBR, ASREN’s Arab
regional open-access harvesting initiative.
