As part of the EUMEDplus project’s commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women, the Women in STEM track at e-AGE24 emerged as a standout initiative. This dedicated session aimed to celebrate the achievements and resilience of women in STEM across the region, shedding light on their challenges and triumphs. It was a pivotal step towards fostering inclusivity and inspiring future generations within the ASREN community and NRENs.
The Women in STEM panel at e-AGE24 exceeded expectations, providing attendees with a rich, engaging experience. Moderated by the esteemed Dr. Safa Nassereldin, the session featured inspiring talks and discussions from exceptional panelists, including Ouafa Bentaleb, Najah Al Rashdi, Mona Itani, PhD, and Ryma Abassi. Their stories resonated deeply with the audience, offering invaluable insights into their personal and professional journeys.

The discussion was centered around overcoming stereotypes, balancing family responsibilities, and navigating societal expectations. Panelists shared practical advice and empowering messages, leaving attendees with memorable takeaways such as:
Prioritize self-care to maintain happiness and confidence.
Believe in yourself; inner trust can propel you forward even in the absence of external support.
Embrace lifelong learning, challenge stereotypes, and seize new opportunities.
Seek role models and strive to be one for others.

There are so many inspiring Arab women in STEM and it's just great that ASREN is giving them credit! Not only they are a powerful role model for a whole new generation of scientists and engineers, but in my opinion they're also a (much needed) antidote to the simplistic view some of us westerners still hold about the Arab world and the women's role in it.
