ASREN successfully hosted e-AGE24 on December 11-13, 2024, in Tunis, Tunisia, bringing together leaders from research and education networks (NRENs), policymakers, and experts to discuss
The event was officially opened by Prof. Saoussen Krichen, Director General of CCK, Tunisia, and Yousef Torman, Managing Director of ASREN, who emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in advancing research and education networks. Held under the patronage of H.E. Mondher Belaid, Tunisia’s Minister of Higher Education, e-AGE24 marked a significant milestone as ASREN’s first conference under its newly reformed organizational structure, reinforcing its commitment to advancing digital infrastructure for research and education.
This edition of e-AGE introduced two new initiatives:
🔹 The Women in STEM Track – a dedicated session highlighting career development, capacity building, and networking opportunities, fostering connections between experienced professionals and emerging talents.
🔹 The Next Gen Researchers Platform – providing a platform for young researchers to showcase their work, supporting the next generation of innovators in the Arab region.
e-AGE24 was co-funded by the EU through the EUMEDplus project, which officially launched in September 2024. EUMEDplus aims to enhance digital infrastructure, foster collaboration between European and Mediterranean research communities, and strengthen NREN capacity-building efforts. The project played a key role in shaping discussions around regional digital transformation and open science initiatives.
The conference concluded confirming the importance of regional collaboration, sustainability of NRENs, and the digital future of research and education. An award was given to the best participant from the Next Gen Researchers Session, recognizing their outstanding contribution. Finally, e-AGE25 was announced to be hosted in Amman, Jordan, further reinforcing the momentum of ASREN’s vision and its commitment to fostering growth and cooperation in the region.
