The Morocco National Open Science Dialogue was held on 24 July 2025 in Rabat, Morocco, as part of the 16th Quadrennial General Conference (GENCON25) organized by the Association of African Universities (AAU) and hosted at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P).
The session was co-organized by the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN) in collaboration with the Training Centre in Communication (TCC Africa) and PLOS, within the framework of regional partnerships aimed at advancing open science adoption across North Africa and the African continent.
The dialogue brought together experts, policymakers, and research stakeholders to examine the current state of open science in Morocco and North Africa, discuss policy and infrastructure readiness, and identify opportunities for regional and continental collaboration. Discussions emphasized open science as both a strategic priority and an ethical commitment to inclusive and transparent knowledge production.
Ahead of the dialogue, Mr. Yousef Torman, Managing Director of ASREN, delivered a presentation on the readiness of Arab National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) to support open science, highlighting Morocco’s potential role as a regional hub. He also outlined ASREN’s strategic initiatives and future plans to strengthen open science ecosystems across the Arab region.
The session contributed to building momentum for coordinated open science policies and reinforced collaboration among regional and African partners in support of sustainable and inclusive research infrastructures.
